Oracle DBA / Developer

Summary: The Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) / Developer will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, and performance of Oracle databases within the Department of Defense. This role will involve database administration tasks such as installation, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting, as well as database development tasks such as designing, implementing, and optimizing database structures and queries.

Responsibilities:

  1. Database Administration:

    • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle database software.
    • Perform database upgrades and patches in accordance with Department of Defense standards.
    • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to optimize performance.
    • Ensure data integrity, security, and backup/recovery procedures are in place and followed.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.
  2. Database Development:

    • Design and implement database structures to support application requirements.
    • Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures for efficient data retrieval and manipulation.
    • Collaborate with software developers to integrate database functionality into applications.
    • Conduct performance tuning and optimization of database queries and code.
  3. Security and Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce security policies and access controls to protect sensitive data.
    • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense regulations and standards for database security and data management.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain thorough documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
    • Generate reports on database performance, usage, and compliance for management review.
  5. Collaboration and Support:

    • Work closely with IT teams, developers, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and provide database solutions.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to users and IT staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator and Developer.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle database administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and backup/recovery.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL programming for database development and optimization.
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and other database monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense security regulations and standards (e.g., DISA STIGs) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Certifications (Desirable):

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) - Database Administrator
  • Oracle Certified Expert (OCE) - Oracle Database SQL
  • Security certifications such as CISSP or CompTIA Security+
  • Secret Clearance or above
