SQL Server Administrator / Developer

As a SQL Server Administrator/Developer at Oran Inc., you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our database infrastructure while also developing and implementing efficient database solutions to meet the specialized requirements of our DOD projects. You will work closely with our defense clients to design, deploy, and maintain database systems that support critical missions and ensure the integrity and security of sensitive data.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Database Administration:

    • Manage and maintain SQL Server databases, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
    • Implement database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data availability and integrity.
    • Monitor database performance and proactively identify and address issues to optimize system performance.
  2. Database Development:

    • Design and develop database solutions to meet project requirements, adhering to DOD standards and security protocols.
    • Develop stored procedures, triggers, and other database objects to support application functionality.
    • Collaborate with software developers to integrate database functionality into applications and ensure efficient data access and retrieval.
  3. Security and Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with DOD security requirements.
    • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.
    • Ensure data confidentiality and integrity through encryption, access controls, and other security measures.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Create and maintain technical documentation, including database schemas, configurations, and procedures.
    • Generate reports and metrics to track database performance, usage, and compliance with DOD standards.
    • Prepare and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and project teams.
  5. Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, network engineers, and project managers, to deliver high-quality solutions.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members and assist in resolving complex technical issues.
    • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and provide solutions that meet their needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in SQL Server administration and development, preferably in a DOD or government contracting environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server database administration, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of T-SQL programming and database development concepts.
  • Experience with database security protocols and compliance standards, such as DoD RMF and STIG requirements.
  • Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification(s) in SQL Server administration and development (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate).
  • Experience with other database technologies, such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services, such as Microsoft Azure SQL Database or Amazon RDS.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for database automation and deployment.
