We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead a multi-phase migration from legacy SAS workloads to AWS-native services and Snowflake. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of modernizing legacy SAS environments, translating complex ETL and analytic pipelines to cloud-native architectures, and implementing optimized data platforms in Snowflake. This role is part of a large-scale digital transformation effort supporting U.S. Federal agencies.
Lead end-to-end migration of SAS-based ETL workflows, datasets, and analytics logic to AWS and Snowflake.
Analyze existing SAS code (macros, stored processes, EG jobs) and translate them into equivalent Snowflake SQL, Python, or AWS Glue jobs.
Build and optimize data ingestion pipelines using AWS services like S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, and Snowpipe.
Design and implement data modeling strategies (e.g., star schema, SCD, normalization) to support scalable analytics in Snowflake.
Conduct performance tuning of Snowflake queries and warehouse configurations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Data Engineers, DevOps, Cloud Architects, and SAS SMEs.
Ensure FedRAMP, NIST, and agency-specific compliance in all data movement and transformation processes.
Create knowledge transfer plans and technical documentation for operational teams.
Lead data validation and UAT to ensure migration completeness and performance.
10+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics with a heavy focus on SAS.
5+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake including performance tuning and large-scale migrations.
Strong experience with AWS services (S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, CloudWatch).
Deep understanding of SAS architecture and job orchestration (SAS Grid, SAS EG, SAS Studio, etc.).
Proficiency in SQL, Python, and shell scripting.
Proven experience in migrating legacy SAS environments to cloud platforms, particularly to Snowflake via AWS.
Familiarity with CI/CD processes and version control (e.g., Git) in data environments.
